“My Little Dog—A Heartbeat At My Feet.” -- Haiku's Poetry Club

One of our best-loved quotes:

My little dog—a heartbeat at my feet.

                                 --Edith Wharton

At just 12 days old the pups have not opened their eyes...any day now though! Much of a young puppy's life at this point is sleep and lying in wait for Mama to come and feed them

Auntie "Brownie" has contributed this apropos eponymous Rossetti poem. Must be about Puppy Breath!:

Brownie, Brownie, let down your milk
White as swansdown and smooth as silk,
Fresh as dew and pure as snow:
For I know where the cowslips blow,
And you shall have a cowslip wreath
No sweeter scented than your breath.

                            -- Christina Georgina Rossetti

Nothing more precious than a sleeping puppy tummy!

Oh! hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us
And black are the waters that sparkled so green.
The moon, O'er the combers, looks downward to find us
At rest in the hollows that rustle between.
Where billow meets billow, there soft by the pillow.
Oh, weary wee flipperling, curl at thy ease!
The storm shall not wake thee, no shark shall overtake thee
Asleep in the storm of slow-swinging seas.

                                                   "Seal Lullaby"
                                                    --Rudyard Kipling
